About Emily's Practice:
I work with children and adolescents (2-17) who have experienced grief/loss, divorce, trauma, depression, anxiety, behavioral issues, and other situations that affect a child's social, emotional, and psychological well-being. My role as a play therapist is to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where children and adolescents can explore and express their thoughts and feelings in a meaningful way. I believe in a strengths-based approach that enhances children's resiliency and their existing coping strategies. I partner with families throughout the therapeutic process to provide the best outcomes for children.
When children are experiencing social, mental, and emotional challenges, it can be developmentally difficult for them to articulate their thoughts and feelings verbally. Children tend to show us how they are feeling through their behaviors.
Play is a child's natural language; it allows for a full range of creative and emotional expression. The playroom is equipped with a variety of toys, art supplies, puppets, and a sand tray that are intentionally selected for therapeutic purposes. Children can begin to heal when they are given the space to "play out" their experiences in a therapeutic environment.
