What is group therapy?
Group therapy is a chance for you and a group of your peers to work with one or two licensed professionals for the purposes of acquiring new skills, connecting with and learning from others who may share similar experiences, and healing from your struggles. Our groups may consist of anywhere from three to 10 participants, and they are organized around a topic or treatment modality. Participating in group therapy can provide you with normalization around emotions, thoughts, or situations that you might be experiencing, as it is likely that other participants in your group have experienced similar things. Participants can learn from one another, as well as from the licensed professionals leading the group.
How can I go about choosing a group therapy program?
If you are already working with an individual therapist, we encourage you and your therapist to review the descriptions below of the group therapy programs offered at Gateway Wellness Associates, LLC. You and your therapist can discuss which group therapy program seems like it might be most beneficial for you at this time. We would then encourage you to contact us here, and we will call you to discuss enrolling in a group.
If you do not have an individual therapist, and after reviewing the group offerings below, you are not sure which would be the best fit for your needs, please reach out to us here, and we will contact you to schedule a phone consultation. Please note that some of our groups, particularly our DBT skills groups, will require you to be in individual therapy along with group therapy, as this is what the research suggests will lead you to the greatest benefits.
Most of our groups require interested participants to complete a consultation or intake prior to beginning the group.
