About Sara's Practice:
Sara Johnson-Cardona is a bilingual (Spanish and English) therapist, specializing in trauma. Sara is an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) practitioner, currently working towards certification. Sara specializes in trauma, and frequently works with clients who have experienced intimate partner violence, sexual assault, childhood emotional and/or physical abuse. Sara believes that in order to fully flourish in our daily lives, we must deeply believe in our worth as humans, believe that we are enough as we are, and be able to set appropriate limits with those around us. Unfortunately, past events can sometimes leave us believing the opposite of all of these things. Often, these past events are also the events that we keep telling ourselves are "not a big deal" or that we should be "over by now." May you hear that if it causes you pain, it is a big deal; your pain is just as important as anyone else's, and unfortunately telling ourselves to "just get over it" does not usually work. Through EMDR clients can find their own wisdom and resources to work through past events and engage more fully and joyfully in the present.
Sara has also been trained in Dr. Kristin Neff's work on self-compassion, mindfulness techniques, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. She helps clients learn more about themselves and make changes in their lives by providing a supportive, encouraging, and strength-based environment. Sara feels incredibly lucky to be a part of an individual's journey towards healing, and see the amazing human capacity for resiliency every day.
